Safestay Announces the Launch of Safestay Edinburgh in Summer 2016

Premium hostel brand Safestay is delighted to announce the launch of Safestay Edinburgh, in the heart of Old Town (a UNESCO WorldHeritage Site), in Summer 2016. Currently undergoing a phased refurbishment and rebranding programme whilst trading as “Smart City Hostel by Safestay”, Safestay Edinburgh joins Safestay London Elephant & Castle, Safestay London Holland Park and Safestay York as the fourth property in the brand's expanding portfolio.

Safestay Edinburgh

Safestay Edinburgh has 132 rooms with 615 beds and offers a combination of en-suite private and mixed bunk-bed dorm rooms. 272 beds of these are available throughout the year, while an additional 81 en-suite bedrooms, which are leased to the University of Edinburgh from September to May as part of a student accommodation scheme; are specially converted and made available to Safestay guests over the peak summer months. Rates start from £18 per bed per night and private twin rooms are available from £60 per room per night.

Safestay Edinburgh is located at 50 Blackfriars Street, famously the site of the first printing press in Scotland, and one of Edinburgh’s ancient thoroughfares near the lively Cowgate. The hostel occupies the listed building, Blackfriars House, as well as a modern extension. Only 6 minutes’ walk from Edinburgh Waverley station, the hostel is within easy reach of many of the City’s top visitor attractions. These include Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh Dungeons, Holyrood Palace, Camera Obscura, Dynamic Earth, the Royal Mile, and Princess Street.

Black Box Interiors, the design team behind Safestay interiors, pay homage to Scotland’s illustrious heritage in elements of the design while vibrant hues give the hostel a contemporary feel. Safestay’s trademark furnishings and standout lighting are evident throughout. Large exploding pendants provide the wow factor on arrival. High winged back chairs in bold tartan contrast with retro lounge chairs in lime greens. Scotland-inspired artwork, including fashion photography and quirky local prints, adorns the walls.

A highlight for Safestay guests is the lively Bar50 which serves great value freshly-prepared food and drinks from 8.00am until late. The selection includes fresh stone-baked pizzas, 100% Aberdeen Angus beef burgers, Edinburgh Gin, Monkey Shoulder Whisky, and WEST brewery (Glasgow) St Mungos lager on tap. Haggis is on the breakfast menu for those keen to sample the national dish. Weekly bar events include open mic and quiz nights. Safestay Edinburgh also features a heated roof terrace and a fully-equipped guest kitchen.

Safestay Edinburgh features a range of accommodation options from private twin rooms and family rooms with complimentary tea/coffee facilities, to four-, six-, eight- and larger bunk bedded rooms, all with en-suite showers. The bunk beds come with individual reading lights as well as lockers to secure luggage and personal items. Entry to the rooms is secured by key card.

There is complimentary WiFi throughout the property. Further facilities include: pool tables, a well-equipped laundry room, secure luggage store, an ATM, a computer area, and a book swap library. Guests can also join the free Edinburgh walking tour organized by Sandemans (three times daily).
